Sunday Connections Note: Program Began About 9 Minutes, 20 Seconds Into Recording (Due to Tech Glitch)

NOTE:  Due to technical difficulties, our program began about 9 minutes 20 seconds into the recording.  Sorry for the inconvenience.  Please fast forward to that point.  Click to the Event Page below.

It was an information-packed program you won't want to miss!

Also, we're starting a company to make and ship eggplant juice products, Aubergine Juice.

This Sunday - Launch of Aubergine Juice: Commercially Available Frozen Eggplant Juice Delivered Right To Your Door, Worldwide

This Sunday at 2pm Pacific, coming to you via the Sunday Connections program hosted by www.parkinsonsrecovery.com, I will provide the initial details of Aubergine Juice's crowd funding campaign planned for this year.

Add your email to support our launch: http://auberginejuice.launchrock.com

Our mission will be to provide fresh, organic, frozen eggplant juice products shipped direct to consumers worldwide.  We believe our first product, a blend of 85% eggplant juice, 15% turmeric root juice, and added black pepper will be a key ingredient in a diet and exercise program for neuro-protection, restoring brain health, and alleviating the symptoms of Parkinson's Disease and other neurological conditions.

I will also discuss my status, newest juice recipe, and exercise.  Further, I will share how the common MTHFR 1298c gene defect has affected me, and why everyone should be tested

Date & Time: Sunday, March 20th at 2:00pm Pacific

Background:
Glen was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2011.  By 2013, he was taking high doses of medication, and had dyskinesia and dystonia.  Without medication he had trouble walking.  DBS surgery was suggested.  He read the literature and developed an approach that reduced his medications by 95%, and improved his health.

Every Person Should Be Tested For The Common MTHFR Gene Defect. One Outcome: Parkinson's

Have you been tested for an MTHFR gene defect?  There are two, 1298c and 677t, and they both can have similar negative effects.  Dr. Mischley tested me in 2013 and I have the MTHFR 1298c defect.  It may be as common as 1:32 people.  This defect inhibits me from reducing the vitamin folate into 5-methyl folate which in turn foils the recycling of another vitamin called tetrahydrobiopterin (THB).

Brace yourself :-)
Tetrahydrobiopterin has the following responsibilities as a cofactor:

So this can really mess you up in a lot of ways (so every person should be tested).

Note that it foils the production of dopamine at two places: phenylalanine to tyrosine, and tyrosine to LDOPA.  Thus in the myriad of health problems it can cause, one of them can be Parkinson's.  Looks like I may have drawn that card.  But with the likelihood of the gene defect, I bet many PD sufferers have drawn that card.

So the good news is that both 5-Methyl Folate (5MF, easy to get) and THB (very hard to get) are supplements.  I had been taking 5MF, but I just in the last three weeks discovered the 400 mcg per day I was taking was nowhere near enough.  Realizing the above and that 5MF is a water soluble B vitamin, I've gradually increased my dose to as much as 11,000 mcg per day.

Great results so far!  My dystonia symptoms subsided about 90%, rigidity decreased, and remaining PD medicine on-time increased.  I lost 15 pounds too, and have better sleep and digestion.  I feel more relaxed.  No negatives.

Get tested.  Consider 5MF!

February Marks Three Years Since Powerful Food, Exercise, and Sunlight Modified My PD

The journey I started three years ago is going strong.  I am still taking less than 1/8th the medication as then and performing very well.  I am still following the elements I detail in the book.  I have added 100ml turmeric juice per day with black pepper, which allowed me to reduce my eggplant juice by about 1/2 to 1/3.  I added a few tomatillos per day.  I made further reductions in sugar.  I boosted exercise with boxing once per week.

Doing well!

God Bless,
Glen

Melatonin, Serotonin, Dopamine and Their Common Denominator: AAAD

So this past August it appears my pineal gland became healthy enough that most nights I no longer need melatonin supplements to sleep well.

Sounds good, right?

Well yes, but unfortunately my pineal was also healthy enough to overproduce melatonin while I sleep, and then the excess was inhibiting dopamine production in the daytime - as I've previously discussed.

Then my sister sent me an interesting video by Mars / Venus author John Gray:

http://youtu.be/tibPjgHsFi8

So he's presenting an interesting anti-PD approach, which I'm looking into, but it got me thinking about serotonin, melatonin, and dopamine.

And I realized there's a common denominator, the enzyme called "aromatic amino acid decarboxylase" (AAAD), also called "dopamine decarboxylase" (DDC).

AAAD converts 5-HTP (from tryptophan, ala turkey, walnuts, etc.) into serotonin, and AAAD also converts L-DOPA (from tyrosine, ala eggplant, lima beans, etc.) into dopamine.  Serotonin in turn is neatly converted into melatonin if MAO is inhibited.

I've attached Figures 1 - 3 below to show these observations.

So then I observed that if my pineal is overproducing melatonin, it's not only inhibiting daytime dopamine, but it's draining my serotonin, and may also be driving a shortage of AAAD by over-demanding serotonin production - further limiting dopamine production.

I tried 50mg of 5-HTP before bed, but had horrible cramps interspersed with periods of paradise relaxation. Too much I thought. So instead I started having a few slices of turkey every evening before bed, and boosted my turmeric (and black pepper) intake (an MAO inhibitor).

It worked, and I reduced my medication and juice both by about 40%.

God Bless,

Glen

Figure 1 - Synthesis of Serotonin from 5-HTP by AAAD
On top a L-tryptophan molecule with an arrow down to a 5-HTP molecule. Tryptophan hydroxylase catalyses this reaction with help of O2 and tetrahydrobiopterin, which becomes water and dihydrobiopterin. From the 5-HTP molecule goes an arrow down to a serotonin molecule. Aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase or 5-Hydroxytryptophan decarboxylase catalyses this reaction with help of pyridoxal phosphate. From the serotonin molecule goes an arrow to a 5-HIAA molecule at the bottom ot the image. Monoamine oxidase catalyses this reaction, in the process O2 and water is consumed, and ammonia and hydrogen peroxide is produced.
